LAHORE:
While linking Information Technology with national development
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has invited investors to invest
in IT sector rather than traditional sectors.
Addressing
the inauguration ceremony of the new office of Software
Institution "Net Sole" here on Friday, he said
government policies for information technology sector are
liberal and investor friendly and investors should make
good use of these policies.

Gen (Retd) Khalid Maqbool, Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi,
Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed
Khan Leghari, State Minister for Information Technology
Ali Asjad Malhi, State Minister Dr Naseem Ashraf, Chief
Secretary Punjab Kamran Rasool and high ranking officials
of the government were present on the occasion.
Government,
he said has taken unprecedented steps for the promotion
of IT sector in the country and import of IT related items
is tax free while the export policy is a liberal one.
He
pointed out that government is planning to privatise the
IT sector, as there are lot of opportunities for investors
in this field. "I have envisioned software, hardware
and telecommunication as most important in this sector," he
added.
He
went on to say that in collaboration with World Bank the
computer literacy program is a fight against illiteracy. "Few
people term this program a waste of time and money but
the time has proved that our policy was right," he
held.
He
asked if India and Philippine's economies could get a boost
through IT sector then why not Pakistan's?
He
pointed out that new business groups are investing in IT
sector.
"I
have envisioned Pakistan as nation having one of the fastest
improving GDP growth rate and in my opinion we could gain
fruits through investment in IT sector," he underlined.
