Prime Minister Inaugurates Literacy Center on Occasion of International Literacy Day

PESHAWAR,
September 8 (APP): Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani
Tuesday inaugurated a Literacy Center set up by National
Commission for Human Development (NCHD) here on the occasion
of International Literacy Day.The Literacy Center inaugurated
by the Prime Minister is part of NCHD’s mega project aimed at increasing adult literacy rate.
NWFP Governor,
Awais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Amir Haider Hoti, Federal
Minister for Information, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senior Ministers
including Bashir Bilour and Rahim Dad and officials of NCHD
were also present on the occasion.
At the inauguration
ceremony, the Prime Minister was briefed by Chairman NCHD,
MNA Nafisa Shah that under the project about 13600 Non Formal
Community Schools would be set up with focus on increasing
literacy rate, especially of women folk and in rural areas
of the country.
These community
schools would be set up in all the 134 districts of the country,
FATA, FANA and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), she added.
The objective
of the project is to create awareness among people that Adult
Literacy
is essential and is first step towards learning.
The government,
she added, had already made an allocation of Rs. Seven billion
for next three years for the project. The project would
provide employment opportunity about 50,000 youth, especially
of
rural areas.”
