ISLAMABAD:
A 15-member special committee, headed by MNA Faryal Talpur,
has been constituted on operations of the National Commission
for Human Development.
Special
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Social Sector Begum
Shahnaz Wazir Ali will be the
convener of the committee. Other members include Dr
Shamsh Kassim Lakha, Farrokh K Captain, Abdul Hafeez
Shaikh,
Begum Roshan Khurshid Barocha, Dr Mushtaq A Khan, Ejaz
Rahim, Nafeesa Shah, Lt-Gen (retd) Muhammad Zubair,
Khalid Idrees, Ahmed Owais Pirzada, Zulfiqar Ahmad, Sadiqa
Salahuddin
and M Jahangir Bashar.
The
decision to constitute the special committee was taken
in a meeting of the cabinet
committee that was held on Wednesday to look
into the status of the NCHD under the chairmanship
of M Salman Farooqui, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission.
The meeting was attended by Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali,
members of the Planning Commission, the additional
secretary
Finance Division and the chief operating officer
NCHD.
The
committee took note of the operations of the NCHD in
the light of the governmentís
commitment to the universal primary education, human resource development
and the millennium development goals.
In
order to take all the stakeholders on board, a special
committee has
been set up to review the PC-I and make recommendations
by 15th September 2008
for consideration of the CDWP to be held on 18th
September.
The
committee recommended that an efficient programme, having
priority to the community feeder schools
providing universal primary education, should
be undertaken
and funded. The committee also noted the communication received from
the members of the US Congress with regard to funding
the
programme.
The
committee noted that the NCHD had already submitted a
4-year programme (2008-11) to the
Planning Commission for the consideration of the CDWP,
which
is also represented by the provinces. The proposal
is scheduled to be discussed in
the CDWP meeting
to be held on 18th September.
The
committee also noted that all the physical assets of
the NCHD spread all over the country
be protected and advised the cabinet secretary to
ensure
that these assets were properly documented
and fully protected.
